I recently had the opportunity to attend the 16th Annual National Summit on Healthcare Marketing Strategies in Orlando, FL., March 27-29. The conference came at an exciting time for Medicom Health Interactive, following the launch of our licensed online product, the Heart Health Profiler. Everyone who accessed the application at the summit liked how easy it was to use, and they were particularly pleased with the clear results and call to action. When these experienced hospital marketers learned that in one week Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami already had 7 referrals to cardiologists, they were very impressed with the program’s quick return on investment.
The conference was also a great networking opportunity, as I was fortunate to meet and get to know many industry experts. I attended concurrent sessions on topics that were very informative and that Medicom Health Interactive will be using in the future. For example:
- Chris Boyer from Inova Health and Chris Bevolo from Interval presented Engaging Consumers with Wellness in which they highlighted Inova’s Fit for 50 program.
- Lynn Eastep from University Hospitals of Cleveland presented on how to enhance the online patient experience and the importance of usability testing.
- Sharon Winn from Susquehanna Health and Robert Wasserman from ECG Management Consultants talked about creating a successful fully-integrated cardiovascular service line and the importance of continuity among the different cardiovascular units.
However, perhaps the most important thing I learned during this conference was just how much hospital marketers need to be aware of: social media strategies, new interactive technologies, physician strategies, website considerations…the list goes on and on. Given that the competition between health centers for patients is intense, I gained an increased appreciation about how difficult the hospital marketer’s job is.
