Alina Kifyak loves numbers. Even as a young girl growing up in Chisinau, Moldova, she had a fondness for the number seven. Now a lifetime and world away from her hometown, she’s loving every minute of money management as Medicom Health’s resident Accounting Specialist.
Prior to joining Medicom Health, Alina worked in the banking industry. She started as a teller with one of the largest banks in the country. Her strong work ethic and solid financial footing quickly moved her into a Customer Service role combining both teller and banker duties. Though it wasn’t long before she was a full time fiduciary approving and rejecting stocks. However, with a growing family Alina needed a more flexible schedule.
That’s when she found Medicom Health and was officially welcomed to the fold in October 2019. Since joining the team she’s sent contracts, invoices, ensured ADP accuracy, and kept payroll rolling. She contacts clients to remind them of outstanding invoices and likewise ensures vendors are paid in a timely manner. On top of financial duties, she juggles a handful of tasks for the human resources department and keeps the office stocked with snacks, soda, and supplies.
But there’s one thing she does daily that she advises people looking to improve their financial abilities do too: track expenses.
Because when it comes to money matters, Alina focuses on needs versus wants. If you can determine the difference, you’ll be able to recognize that while what you want may make you happy for a moment, focusing instead on your long-term future goal may make you happy for a lifetime. This financial sense allowed her and her husband to pay for their wedding and honeymoon to Bora Bora, in cash, which in turn enabled them to start married life debt-free. Alina credits this to being hands-on and genuinely loving saving cash.
Though she is willing to part with some of that cash to travel. Some of her favorite destinations include: Costa Rica, Iceland, Hawaii, Maldives, and of course, Bora Bora. She also enjoys cooking, working out, and as a self-proclaimed neat-freak: cleaning and organizing. In her free time, Alina also gleefully keeps the books for her husband’s woodworking business.
Currently, she and her husband are preparing to build their own home which means squirreling money away. They’re saving on rent by living with her husband’s parents in a suburb southwest of Minneapolis. The arrangement comes with its own set of challenges. Alina doesn’t mind though because her sights are set on the long-term goal. When that isn’t enough though, she advises killing her in-laws…with kindness. Now that makes a lot of “cents!”
