How to Talk to Your Patients About Their Rx Discount Offers

How to Talk to Your Patients About Their Rx Discount Offers

Remember, Rx Savings Assistant® works behind the scenes to send prescription offers directly to your patients after you write their prescription. Therefore, it is essential to make patients aware of these offers so they use the benefit you are providing. Below are some guides for how to talk to your patients about their offers.

Offer Locations

Patients find these offers in the following areas of Epic EHR:

  • At the end of the patient’s After Visit Summary (AVS)
  • Under the “Media” tab in their chart
  • In their “My Documents” section in MyChart

While extremely beneficial to help the patient’s ability to afford their new medication, the offers are not automatically applied at the pharmacy. The patient needs to bring the offer to the pharmacist when they pick up their prescription so they can apply the offer.

Offer Use

For in-person outpatient office visits:

When handing your patients their AVS report, make sure to remind them that the report may include discount offers for prescribed medications. If they lose their papers or accidentally discard the offer, they can still access the offer in their MyChart.

For telehealth visits:

At the end of your visit, after you submit a new prescription in the system, remind your patients that discount offers may be available. Tell them that any available savings offers are in their MyChart accounts. In order to retrieve the offer, they must visit the “My Documents” section of MyChart. Patients do not need to print out the offers to use them, they just need to follow the directions listed on the offer in order to redeem.

For inpatient or emergency visits:

When a patient is discharged from their inpatient stay or emergency visit, any available discount offers will be available in their discharge AVS paperwork. Similar to outpatient visits, if a patient loses their papers or accidentally discard the offer, they can still access the offer in their MyChart account.
