Best Practice: Lightbox Implementation

Best Practice: Lightbox Implementation

When a user clicks to launch an HRA from your website, what happens?

Does the HRA open in a new page or tab, or does it appear as a popup lightbox over the content of your hospital website? While there are two different options on how to launch an HRA, the Lightbox View is our recommended best practice.

What’s a Lightbox?

The lightbox view is like an in-page pop-up box that hosts your HRA. When you use this, your HRA will open within the web page that users are currently on, and the page behind it will be dimmed. This view is preferred because it prevents users from leaving the page they’re currently viewing, and it can be easily closed once a user completes the HRA. This also eliminates the other option that directs users to an entire new web page.

Lightbox gives end-users quicker access to your HRAs instead for waiting for a new page to load. Once they’re finished, it brings them directly back to the page they were previously on. This function can help users complete your HRAs faster and increase time spent on your website.

Why Lightbox?

Based on the results we have been monitoring, the lightbox approach has shown significantly greater response and completion rates from desktop computers. The benefit is that when someone is researching, for example, “lung screening” on your site, they can take the related HRA and once complete, go right back to where they were. It is a better user experience.

Good news: this is as simple as embedding YouTube code. For more details on how to implement the lightbox option, visit our Support Site. If you’re unsure if you have this implementation currently in place, reach out to your Strategic Client Partner for assistance. Please note, some clients may have technical limitations that prevent lightbox use. And other clients have special use cases. But our default recommendation is to use it if you can.

Where Can I Find This Code?

This code can be accessed from the portal under the Customization tab, then the Implementation Guide found on the right-hand side of each URL. Within this page, you can choose between the URL link (which opens the HRA into a new page), or the embed code at the bottom that enables the Lightbox view. Just choose the start display you’d like to use, then copy and paste the embed code onto your website.
