We are excited to announce a new custom sidebar feature available in all of our latest v3 health assessment updates! This is a powerful addition to customize the Medicom Health risk assessments with your message and brand.
What is the custom sidebar?
In short, the custom sidebar feature allows you to add your own content to the right side of any of your v3 assessments. This content can be as simple as a creative image or as complex as your own custom HTML. (Note: The sidebar feature is currently available only in the lightbox implementation on a desktop browser.)
The sidebar will be visible on every screen after the initial HRA splash page. This allows you to do things such as add more branding, news, client testimonials, statistics related to the disease state and much more.
The image can also contain a link to other content which will open in a new browser tab.
How can you use it?
There are many ways to make use of this new feature, and we’ll provide some examples below. Ideally, this custom content would be used for brand-awareness and for creating a sense of trust with your brand. It can also encourage the user to complete the assessment and provide their contact information for follow-up. As a best practice, make this content part of the HRA experience. Try not to distract the user away from your goal of having them complete the HRA.
The sidebar can display PNG, JPG, SVG, and even animated GIFs. You can also use custom HTML to create layouts to accommodate multiple images any other standard web content, including video. The ways that you might use the sidebar are inifinte.

Here are few example ideas:
Patient testimonials
Nothing speaks to consumers like peer reviews. If you have patient success stories, consider pulling a quote or snippet as content for an image with a quote. Promoting that others have had great success and experiences is a very powerful motivator. Inspire the user to complete the assessment. Create a sense of trust for your brand that they will remember when deciding to make an appointment.
Early detection statistics
Statics can be a strong motivator to complete an HRA. Early detection can often mean the difference between a minor problem and a health crisis. For instance, consider sharing stats regarding the successful early treatment of breast or prostate cancer to educate the user and encourage action.
Additional resources
Another idea is to let the user know that additional resources will be made available in the report email that they receive when they complete the HRA. These could be links to educational materials, health apps, seminar sign-ups, coupons, health fairs, etc. Inspire completions and leverage the resources you already have. Get them into the hands of those you know need them.
Hospital or service-line news
Maybe highlight staff or physicians at your organization. Show important news, such as a new clinic or service-line addition.
General brand awareness
Show off your brand! Add pictures of your facilities, your partnerships, initiatives and slogan statements. Keep your brand top of mind in relation to the value of the information you are giving them in your assessments.
How do you implement the Custom Sidebar?
Turning on the custom sidebar is easy. From the customization screen of any HRA (Profiler), click on the “Custom Desktop Sidebar” icon (option 7). Choose from: No sidebar, Image sidebar and HTML sidebar.
Image Sidebar Option
Upload a standard web graphic sized to 250 pixles wide by 650px high. It can be a PNG, JPG, GIF or SVG. Add your alternate image text for accessibility and SEO. Choose whether or not the image is a clickable link and provide a URL that will open in a new tab or window in the browser. Keep in mind that this may distract users from completing the profiler, once they leave for the new opened tab, they may never return to the HRA tab.
HTML Sidebar Option
Select this option and paste your HTML code into the area provided. This is an advanced but very powerful feature. It will take some knowledge of HTML. Consider this a small web page in your profiler. Embed a small YouTube video, if you wish. URL links must contain the target=”_blank” attribute in the HTML code so that they will open a new tab or window. As previously mentioned, be careful with providing links or anything that may distract users from completing the HRA. A preview of your HTML shows next to the editor/entry box.
Finally, now that you have either an Image Sidebar or HTML Sidebar created, save your changes and Preview from the main customization page. Make sure you choose the “Lightbox” option for the preview and implementation. The custom sidebar does not show on mobile or on full desktop view without a lightbox.
Have fun and be creative! We look forward to seeing how YOU decide to use this feature!
