From the Suburbs to Downtown Minneapolis…
As a fellow Medicom Health member, Luke Ylvisaker, Senior Software Engineer, has always enjoyed the quiet life around suburban areas. He has resided in Blaine, MN for most of his life, and even graduated from Mankato State University located in a small town south of the Twin Cities. Through all of this peace and quiet, we’re glad our office in bustling downtown Minneapolis was able to spark an interest in this growing dev team superstar.
Luke has been a part of the Medicom Health team for about 5 years. During his tenure here, he has worked his way to a senior developer role. You can most often find him writing code in various programming languages, blazing through various projects assigned to him, while working to upgrade our products.
One aspect he enjoys most about his position is the ability to be creative on a daily basis. Though he may be coding for the majority of his work hours, it still gives him room to do something new or different from what he is used to. This enables him to continuously improve his skills and expand his experience, all the while being able to work side-by-side with his co-workers, some of whom he has had the pleasure of working with in previous jobs, as well.
Today, he’s glad to be making a direct impact on the viability of our products. Luke commits most of his time to developing many of the new features you have been seeing lately, and it’s not stopping there! We’re glad he’s right beside us as we all learn from each other.
Q&A with Luke:
Current/Favorite Netflix binge: I don’t have a Netflix binge right now, but when it comes to movies and TV, I am a big nerd. If I had to give you my favorite movie of all time, I would say either Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back or The Dark Knight.
Hobbies: I have lots of hobbies, but some of my favorites are downhill skiing in the winter, golf whenever it’s warm enough, playing video games a couple times a week. I have been playing a lot the of Fortnite the past year. However, my time for hobbies has decreased overall in the past 3 years as I spend most of my time hanging out with my two kids. This is a good thing though, as I really enjoy spending time with them as much as possible.
Going to brunch – what do you order? Most likely Pancakes or French Toast. I have a big sweet tooth.
Cat or Dog? Dogs all the way. My wife and I got our golden retriever Winnie in college. She is about to turn 10 years old.
Best part of your job? The best part of my job is being able to be creative on a daily basis. Every day I am building something new or different. I also really enjoy working with my co-workers and team.
