Stony Brook Medicine Integrates HRAs and e-Newsletters

HRAs and e-Newsletters

As marketing technology developers, we strongly believe in the synergistic power of integrated digital marketing tools. To that end we strive to make sure our health risk assessments (HRAs) can be seamlessly woven into every patient engagement workflow, such that 1 + 1 can equal 3.

A great example of this is how the Stony Brook Medicine health system leverages the integration of our Heart Health assessment with Private Health News e-newsletters to increase the effectiveness of both tools. Medicom Health and Private Health News collaborated on a plug-in that our common clients can enable in our Management Portal. It allows HRA users to be automatically signed up for the e-newsletter with relevant topics pre-selected.

It is still early in the use of the combined solution. But they are definitely seeing a lift in subscribers for the Heart Health Newsletter! Over about the first 3 months, the HRAs drove more than 1,100 personalized newsletter subscriptions. A steady drip of relevant content, especially for users who do not immediately schedule an appointment or respond to email follow-up, can really keep a digital relationship going. It’s a great way to ensure you stay top of mind, like the best consumer brands do, and likely to result in revenue growth.

Using our integration, Private Health News can automatically deliver relevant, highly-personalized e-newsletters (My Health e-News) to end-users after they complete an HRA. The e-newsletters contain information pulled from hundreds of medically reviewed resources. Users can customize topics at any time based on their interest. This kind of nurturing drip can be extremely difficult and time-consuming to build and maintain. Yet, importantly, it is what consumers expect today.

More Details

Our integration of HRAs and e-newsletters is far from basic. Often multiple relevant topics in My Health e-News are activated by an assessment completion. More granular metrics or answers to specific health questions also trigger topic activation, regardless of assessment. For example, if a user indicates they are over 64 years of age in any HRA, it turns on the “Senior Health” topic in their My Health e-News settings automatically.
